Bellows Calls for Full Environmental Review

Thursday, March 6, 2014Press Release

“We are at a key moment where we must confront climate change before it’s too late.  Mainers agree that transporting tar sands oil through Maine could be potentially catastrophic.  It’s important that there be a full permit review by the State Department to fully examine the environmental consequences of reversing the pipeline to transport tar sands oil.  I join with Representatives Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud in calling on the State Department to engage in a full review, and I call on our Senators including my opponent, Republican Susan Collins, to do the same,” said Shenna Bellows, Maine’s Democratic Candidate for the United State’s Senate.

Bellows has made climate change one of the key issues on the campaign trail.  Last week, she was endorsed by leading environmentalists from across the state due to her opposition to the Keystone XL Pipeline, a major policy difference between her and her opponent, Republican Susan Collins.  Republican Susan Collins voted in favor of the Keystone XL Pipeline twice.
